Jon Edwards joined Atema with over 40 years of rich, intensive DOT experience. His role includes the technical review of reports for the DOT Quality Services sister certification body for Supplier Qualification Programs for DOTs and transportation agencies. He is an Atema liaison with top level industry groups and organizations representing Atema through correspondence, committee membership, and attendance at strategic functions.

Mr. Edwards previous role was with ILDOT Bureau of Bridges and Structures, Shop Plans and Steel Fabrication Unit. He provided engineering expertise and administrative oversight for quality assurance and employee development in steel and aluminum fabrication inspection. He also provided shop drawing review of steel, aluminum, and prestressed concrete products, and approval of welding procedures. He provided design and review of traffic structures (overhead sign supports, mast arms, high mast light towers), and review of design plans for fabrication, constructability, and serviceability issues. His staff ensured contractor and product compliance for complex designs and materials, requiring frequent interpretation of specifications and acceptance of criteria. His experience with movable bridges includes involvement in the fabrication and reconstruction of primary elements for the Cass St., Jefferson St., and McDonough St. Scherzer rolling bascules and the Ruby St. and Brandon Road trunnion bascules in Joliet, IL. Those entailed new rolling tracks, deck support systems, and machinery for the Scherzers and new pivot shafts and bearings for the trunnions. He was also involved in the fabrication and subsequent investigation of field problems during replacement of the trunnions, shafts, and cables for the vertical lift bridge at Hardin, IL.
