This course introduces requirements for a Fabricator’s and/or Erector’s Quality Control Program and their required Quality Control Inspector’s (those who inspect) responsibilities.

Weld Inspection – AWS D1.1 | 3 Hours

This course introduces requirements for a Fabricator’s and/or Erector’s Quality Control Program and their required Quality Control Inspector’s (those who inspect) responsibilities.

Attendees will gain a better understanding of welding terminology, weld symbols, responsibilities, in-process inspection tasks, and final inspection criteria. The instructor will lead an interactive hands-on demonstration for welding inspection gauge use, where attendees learn the proper method for use of basic weld gauges. Attendees are introduced to weld discontinuities with visual examples to help learn how to determine acceptance or rejection of weld quality conditions.

OUTCOMES: Attendees will understand the in-process, final weld inspection responsibilities and weld inspection criteria to AWS D1.1 Structural Welding Code – Steel.

PREQUISITES: Weld Inspection & Terminology Experience

Visual Weld Inspection – Hands On | 4 Hours

This course is most effective when paired with the Quality Control Weld Inspector D1.1 course. Attendees are provided the opportunity to apply their visual weld inspection knowledge and perform hands-on weld inspection.

Attendees are with provided weld gauges, weld replicas, and written scenarios where they apply code requirements, determine acceptance or rejection, and describe nonconformance issues to others.

OUTCOMES: Attendees will apply their knowledge of weld inspection and have a better understanding how to determine acceptability per requirements of AWS D1.1 Structural Welding Code - Steel.

PREQUISITES: QC Weld Inspector Class or knowledge to applicable AWS weld code

Intro To Visual Weld Inspection | 2Hours

This course is for those who are new to performing visual weld inspection or have limited experience performing visual weld inspection.

Attendees are introduced to the identification of weld discontinuities, defects, and receive an overview of the importance of welding consumable storage, controlling preheat and interpass temperatures, and the application of weld gauges.

OUTCOMES: Attendees will understand the basics of identifying weld discontinuities and defects.

Bolt Inspection | 2.5 Hours

The course reviews the requirements from the Research Council on Structural Connections RCSC – Specification for Structural Joints using High-Strength Bolts.

Attendees will understand the requirements for bolt storage, identification, joint types, and inspection of different types of bolted connections. Participants also learn the requirements for Pre-Installation Verification and conduct hands on exercises performing Preinstallation Verification while creating a quality record for the process.

OUTCOMES: Attendees will understand the requirements for pre-installation verification, storage, installation, and inspection. For students attending the on-site course, they will apply knowledge of pre-installation verification and installation techniques.

Client-Specific QMS Training | 1-3 Days

For employees who have management responsibilities within the AISC Quality Management System (QMS).

Training can be customized to assessment/audit results, with an emphasis on identified issues. Attendees learn AISC certification standard requirements and use of the quality manual with hands on exercises.

OUTCOMES: Attendees will understand AISC requirements and how to apply the requirements to their company quality management system.

Simple Bridge Fabricator Training | 4 Hours

An introduction/review of the quality systems controlling fabrication of simple bridges (un-spliced rolled structural sections) to AASHTO, AWS, and NSBA requirements.

Upon completion attendees will understand basic bridge geometry, contents of typical design drawings and specifications, and best practices for bridge detailing, purchasing, fabrication, and quality control.

OUTCOMES: Attendees will understand and be able to describe best practices for Simple Bridge fabrication including bridge geometry, detailing, and shop practices.

Intermediate Bridge Fabricator Training | 4 Hours

An introduction/review of the quality systems controlling fabrication of intermediate bridges (spliced rolled beams, plate girders, and simple trusses) to AASHTO, AWS and NSBA requirements.

Upon completion, attendees should understand the concepts covered in the Simple Bridge Fabricator course as well as intermediate bridge geometry, shop assembly, best practices for fabrication and quality control of intermediate bridges, and guidelines for developing in-house certification programs for qualifying and certifying Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) technicians, reviewing subcontractor NDT plans.

OUTCOMES: Attendees will understand and be able to describe best practices for Simple Bridge fabrication including bridge geometry, detailing, and shop practices.

Advanced Bridge Fabricator Training | 4 Hours

A continuation from the Intermediate Bridge course and provides attendees an introduction or review of quality systems controlling fabrication of advanced bridges (curved plate girders, moveable bridges, arches, cable stayed bridges, and complex trusses).

Advanced bridge fabricator training addresses the shop challenges associated with complex girder fabrication, distortion control, and shop assembly.

OUTCOMES: Attendees will understand the basics for Advanced Bridge fabrication and construction document review.

PREQUISITES: Simple Bridge Fabricator Training and Intermediate Bridge Fabricator Training

Fracture Critical Training  | 8 Hours


Introduction to the quality systems controlling fabrication of fracture critical structural steel members to Clause 12 AASHTO/AWS D1.5 Bridge Welding Code Steel.

The course explains the requirements of a Fracture Control Plan and attendees learn how to develop and execute the plan. The course is delivered in multiple sessions targeted to the different functions involved in the Fracture Control Plan.

OUTCOMES: Attendees will understand the requirements for identification, traceability, repair, and a Fracture Control program.
