Eastside Coastal Resiliency Project
Project Description:
The East Side Coastal Resiliency (ESCR) Project is a coastal protection initiative, jointly funded by the City of New York and the federal government, aimed at reducing flood risk due to coastal storms and sea level rise on Manhattan's East Side from East 25th Street to Montgomery Street.
Atema Steel Bridge Project Oversight:
Technical Oversight: Since August of 2021, Atema has provided engineers and quality specialists to give technical advice to Owner (DDC), NYC DOT (project oversight) and PM/CM (HNTB-LiRo). The primary focus is quality oversight with an intended means of facilitating the work to avoid errors, and problem-solving during production execution.
The project includes three pedestrian bridges and six floodgates, which utilize the AWS D1.1 Structural Welding Code–Steel and AASHTO/AWS D1.5M/D1.5:2020–Bridge Welding Code with Fracture Critical designations. The work entails fabrication, welding, steel coating systems, non destructive (NDT) inspection and testing stages.
For DDC, New York City projects, Atema is responsible for “final stamp off” of all components prior to shipping to meet the New York State Steel Construction Manual requirements.
