Hatch Gold Mine Project- Pueblo Viejo Mine

The scope of this project was the development of a gold mine processing facility. It utilizes latest technology to mine microscopic particles of gold from ore, then restore the surrounding area as a preserve for the local community.

There were several General Contractors on this site including Barrick (Prime contractor), Fluor Daniel, and Hatch. Acero Estrella was contracted by Hatch for fabrication and erection of steel structures for the Autoclave, boiler, and electrical building. Additional work included field fitup and erection of a number of large process vessels that involved critical lifts.

Atema was involved from project beginning to review contract specifications, and make recommendations concerning the erection requirements at the site. This was the first contract the AE team had received which required both fabrication and erection to the quality and safety levels of US/International specifications. Previously, AE’s erection, erection safety, and fabrication quality levels were to local domestic standards.

Atema provided onsite project management assistance for the steel erection PM team and the erection subcontractors on this site. Extensive training and coordination with the PM team was required to successfully execute the steel erection to contract requirements.

AE was recognized for their success in safety by the General Contractors. At this site, between all the contractors, over 25 million site manhours without a lost time accident record was established.
